Day 13: Falmouth to Edgartown on the Vineyard

We woke up to an overcast but breezy morning in Falmouth.  We were considering either Nantucket (which we have not been to yet) or Edgartown in Martha's Vineyard. We decided on the latter and took off early to make sure we would get a mooring (the town moorings are first come/first serve).

Once we got out into the sound, the wind was really up and (as usual), it was pretty bouncy.  We put up a full main but only a partial Genoa. The current was at max (about 2.5 kts pushing us east).

8 kts... not so bad

Edgartown Ahead
Edgartown is our favorite place on M/V.  By arriving early, we got a town mooring really close to the town. Two years ago when we were here, they put us waaaaaaaaaaay out in the harbor and we were forced to use the launch ($3/person/ride). This time, we were well within dinghy distance.

Settled in
It's early - it was a quick sail over from Falmouth.  We had a nice lunch and then took the dinghy to town. It took a while to figure out where we could tie up. There is an obvious huge dinghy dock along the yacht club but that is private for the club.  After circling around for a while, we asked the launch driver and he told us where to go. Us transients must go in a little further past the y/c dinghy dock to a very over-crowded floating dock. Here you have to play dinghy hopscotch climbing over and through lots of other dinghies to reach the dock.

That's chin-chin 3 dinghies deep
